Born In October?

opal and tourmaline crochet jewellery by Izabela Motyl

Originally the eighth month of the Roman calendar, October conjures up images of Halloween, crisp Autumn days and Mother Nature showing off her jewel coloured foliage.

As you may expect,  those born in this magical month are celebrated with two stunning gem stones, opal and tourmaline; both of which mirror fire and light of nature’s own gems.  October has always been one of my favourite months of the year and, this year, I’m marking the occasion with two stunning additions to my collection.

Yellow Tourmaline Drop Earrings

A beautiful crystalline mineral, tourmaline is a semi-precious stone which occurs naturally in autumn reds, yellows and oranges.  Thought to contain properties which strengthen the body and spirit and inspire creativity, ancient civilisations believed that tourmaline gained its vibrant colours by travelling along a rainbow before connecting with the Earth.

These stunning yellow tourmaline drop earrings feature a dazzling cluster of tourmaline beads complemented by sterling silver ear wires and hoops and measure approximately two inches in length.  Ideal for adding a touch of glamour to any outfit, these statement earrings will be a favourite for many years to come.

Dangly Opal Dew Drop Earrings by Izabela Motyl

Dew Drop Opal Earrings

Best known for their dancing fire and ice colours, the Bedouins believed that opals contained lightning and fell to Earth from the sky during thunderstorms.  Opals are classed as a mineraloid and get their flashes of coloured light from their internal structure which catches and diffracts even the tiniest amount of light.

Combining on-trend rose gold and precious Ethiopian pale opal beads, these art deco earrings epitomise timeless elegance with just a touch of drama for the perfect finishing touch to an outfit.  Handmade in my studio in Berkshire, these earrings make a stunning gift for a loved one to treasure for a lifetime.

I’ve always been fascinated by the vibrant colours and ancient powers of gemstones like tourmaline and opal and my designs are created by using simple traditional techniques with a modern twist to incorporate nature’s own elements of fire, water, earth and air.

All of the items in my collection are hand made, unique and available with gift wrapping for that special someone in your life.
